Safe Seed Pledge: Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations.
Sow indoors in late spring and retain only the best seedlings. One or two plants will provide enough of this herb for even the largest family. Keep the plants well watered in fall and spring. Water deeply to encourage deep root development, and take special care that young plants are never allowed to dry out. The plants will die out in winter. In areas of hard frost, mulch the roots to protect against. We dry lovage for winter use. Drying seems to make the taste even stronger so use care in recipes.
Levisticum officinale. Perennial. Lovage is a very hardy, very dramatic, large perennial herb that can reach up to 6-feet tall. Appearance and flavor are similar to celery but stronger. It is excellent added to vegetable and meat dishes as well as soups and stews. Untreated seeds.
