He mixed more than six varieties together and began selecting for early maturity, disease resistance, easy harvest and uniformity. Many modern hybrids have at least one inbred that traces back to this open-pollinated variety. Two or more 9-11" ears with 16-18 rows borne on very tall 10-12 foot stalks. Good yield of large yellow kernels for roasting or feed with high quality sileage. Untreated seeds.

Excellent for corn meal or stock feed when mature. The most popular open pollinated, yellow variety grown in the entire country. Originated by Robert Reid of Illinois in 1847 and improved by his son, James L. Reid from 1870 to 1900. Cobs tend to be small and dark red, 9 to 10 inches long with mostly 16 closely spaced rows of kernels. Stalks are heavy, tall, and leafy and make excellent silage. Seeds may be treated.
